Shieldz & Hawxy Are Going Back to the Beginning of Smoky Mountain Wrestling

There’s a lot of wrestling history we’ve watched, talked about and argued over on Mark Out of 10 — but this time, we’re doing something a bit different.

Shieldz and Hawxy are starting Smoky Mountain Wrestling from the very beginning.

We’ll be watching the shows in order on Twitch, following SMW as it develops rather than jumping straight to the biggest matches and moments.

For anyone unfamiliar with Smoky Mountain Wrestling, it was Jim Cornette’s attempt to create a traditional, old-school wrestling promotion during the early 1990s. It featured a mix of established names, future stars and some of the most memorable characters and storylines of the era.

But rather than looking back with the benefit of hindsight, we want to experience it properly.

Who stands out immediately?

Which wrestlers are clearly destined for bigger things?

Which storylines still work more than 30 years later?

And, probably most importantly, how much ridiculous wrestling nonsense are we going to find along the way?

Expect plenty of opinions, arguments, historical discussion and the occasional moment where Hawxy and Shieldz completely disagree on what we've just watched.

We’ll also be rating what we see in true Mark Out of 10 fashion — because, as always:

Opinions mean everything and nothing at the same time.
